This assortment of Cash classics will delight any fan! The songs are sequenced chronologically–the record begins with “Paul Revere” and “Begin West Movement,” moves through “The Gettysburg Address” and “Mister Garfield” a story of an assassination attempt on the President , and ends with “On Wheels and Wings. While the subject matter of the record is much broader than that of Cash’s more personal material, AMERICA still makes for an intriguing stop in the artist’s discography, with its contents equally appropriate for a campfire performance or reference in a junior-high history course.
The disc is yet another lesser-known gem from this multifaceted, iconoclastic figure.

During their tenure in the group, the guitarist and bassist created the main riff and accompanying bassline for “Give It Away”. The rhythm was played at several H. The phrase had been something the vocalist intended to incorporate into a song for the band’s new record, but it was not until he heard the bassline that the lyrics fit. Kiedis said, “I was so struck by Flea’s bass part, which covered the whole length of the instrument’s neck, that I jumped up and marched over to the mic, my notebook in tow.
I always had fragments of songs and ideas or even specific isolated phrases in mind.

Open any book on guitars or rock music and the names Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, etc. Those names belong to the manufacturers who produced the top quality designs which continue to appeal to the majority of guitarists and hence resulted in sales figures which dwarf Hofner’s output. The deserved success of such instruments in popular music over the last 50 years has put Hofner guitars somewhat in the shade! However, all is no lost. If one looks hard enough one can find some books, and now several web sites, dedicated to providing information on Hofner guitars.

Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, dating back to the early s in the United States, especially the a genre it blends the sound of Western musical styles such as country with that of rhythm and blues, leading to what is considered “classic” rock and roll. Some have also described it as a blend of bluegrass with rock and roll.
Go to menu top I never heard anything better than a Fender if we’re talking about the big manufacturers. Later on, in the Guitar section, I’ll also talk about Standel and EchoSonic , but they’re produced in such small numbers that it’s fair to say they’ll only have historic interest to the most of us So As long as you get a tube Fender you’ll probably be on the right track, because they all sound pretty good. It doesn’t have to be vintage at all, but they do look pretty cool.
Actually I started out playing a vintage Vox AC 30 and it wasn’t bad at all. The sound was very ‘tube’ and that’s what you’re looking for, but Fender is still the better choice for Rockabilly. Fender Bassman ’59 reissue Many Rockabilly guitarists play a ’59 Fender Bassman or similar – vintage or reissue. It sounds perfect for rockabilly. The distortion which is where you get the right sound from changes dramatically with change of volume. That’s very impractically when you play live, where you have to adjust the volume after the size and acoustics of the place where you playing.
I found a way to get around that and always have the same “Bassman-sound” no matter what volume I’m playing at Here’s a page with photos of some actual recording sheets where you can see how the SansAmp was set. I play through my Fender Showman which has a very clean sound at all volumes. I then use the SansAmp GT2 pedal that can emulate the old Bassman as an insert between the amp and the guitar.

Judging by reports in regional newspapers by inappropriate theatre reviewers, the tour was a Grade A disaster, but of course it wasn’t. The audiences loved the shows and more importantly, fledgling British musicians watched closely and determined that this was the way forward. Considering there are now films about relatively unimportant moments in rock history, it is inexplicable that there has not been a film about Cochran and Vincent, especially when the story is so colourful.
This isn’t just Calderon’s crusade. The California cities of San Luis Obispo and Davis both passed straws-on-request laws last year, and Manhattan Beach maintains a prohibition on all disposable.

Calderon, the Democratic majority leader in California’s lower house, has introduced a bill to stop sit-down restaurants from offering customers straws with their beverages unless they specifically request one. This isn’t just Calderon’s crusade. The California cities of San Luis Obispo and Davis both passed straws-on-request laws last year, and Manhattan Beach maintains a prohibition on all disposable plastics.
And up in Seattle, food service businesses won’t be allowed to offer plastic straws or utensils as of July. The Los Angeles Times has gotten behind the movement, endorsing straws-on-request policies in an editorial that also warned that “repetitive sucking may cause or exacerbate wrinkles on the lips or around the mouth. The actual number of straws being used is unclear.
Calderon, along with news outlets writing about this issue—from CNN to the San Francisco Chronicle—unfailingly state that Americans use million plastic straws a day, many of them ending up in waterways and oceans. The million figure is often attributed to the National Park Service ; it in turn got it from the recycling company Eco-Cycle. Eco-Cycle is unable to provide any data to back up this number, telling Reason that it was relying on the research of one Milo Cress.
Cress—whose Be Straw Free Campaign is hosted on Eco-Cycle’s website—tells Reason that he arrived at the million straws a day figure from phone surveys he conducted of straw manufacturers in , when he was just 9 years old. Cress, who is now 16, says that the National Restaurant Association has endorsed his estimates in private correspondence.
